Paul Hewitt's Conceptual Physical Science Exploration is one of best physics textbooks for younger students who is interested in Physics. I did some researches on physics textbooks when my son was in the 8th grade too. I later found Harker Middle school also uses this textbook. You should be able to get a used copy for less than $10.
