High school freshman needs colleage planning ?
My kid is a freshman in Lynbrook.His tutor also provides college planning, including school class, summer planning and extra curriculum etc with extra cost ( about $2500 extra) . I would like to get advise from parents who already went through high school of their kids if freshman really can benefit a lot from the planning. Thanks in advance.

freshman应该也需要plan，但是，两个小时最多就可以了。如果是summer 的program的planning，如果帮助找program 加帮助看essay，2500也是天价了。多问几个counselor吧，不，应该多问几个家长吧。
现在freshman已经开学了，课程也定下来了，课外活动也要看孩子的兴趣。

Lynbrook 在开学后会有一个晚上请家长和孩子参加，所有的club都会展示他们自己。建议你们不要错过。每个club应该都是报了名就可以参加的。9年级刚开学可以到各个club看看，几十个clubs，挑几个参加个几次活动，在下半学期能找到自己真正感兴趣的，找到自己的passion。
到了10年级，要focus了。到了11年级，要做出成绩来。到了12年级，最好能得到leadership。

我再建议一点，如果你不太有兴趣现有的，或是在现有的基础上，自己在学校允许的情况下，组建个#2，发展方向有点不同，同样可以取得成绩的。因为成绩也是有不同level的，就如同Debate你可以参加全美的比赛拿第一，可Bayecho孩子们的演讲，对家长的帮助，对社区的影响，对学校的贡献，你能说它不是成绩吗？这样的话，你上来就有很好的leadership的机会。班门弄斧了。

Baymom， 我个人认为你去听几次免费的讲座，要作什么都清楚了。关键是，不是tutor告你要做什么，关键是，他是否能按照你孩子的发展方向，帮你实施这个计划。比如说你希望在你孩子的四年高中里，有一笔是拿个什么大奖，比如英特尔奖吧，只是比如。那你要看他能帮你提供，推荐到一个试验室吗？能帮你找一个导师带吗？即使孩子拿不到什么奖，我觉得这个计划也值得，当然extra curriculum必须是在那些硬指标都好的前提下。仅供参考。

Thanks hotchili and 苏楠. For example, the counselor said he could recommend a MD doctor or a biology research to do research. I was just wondering how a MD doctor or a biology research would like to accept a freshman to do some research given the kid only has limited knowledge in biology ? Isn't that a waste of time to the MD doctor ? Maybe my thought is too limited. Any comments or recommendations ?

把握好机会，安排好时间。我想尤其是他会比我们更清楚哪个暑假或是什么时间更好，他既然给你孩子定计划，就应该清楚你孩子的进度。要求他安排在最适合的时候，即不耽误试验，写论文，又肯定人家接受你，而且你已经学过一些这方面的知识。我觉得他如果能安排，就不差什么时间安排的问题。
